Pass It Around! is a non-profit agency that
uses group-singing to support people who are elderly, chronically or terminally
ill, suffering from chronic depression or anxiety, recovering from substance
abuse, imprisoned, physically disabled or economically disadvantaged. We
provide these folks the opportunity to
sing together
, and raise money for them through an annual
Singathon
benefit. Pass It Around! also trains song-leaders who lead group-singing
in recovery houses, prisons, hospitals and other venues.
Unlike the consumption of professionally produced music, group-singing
fosters friendship and cooperation among singers. By providing the opportunity
for pleasurable group interactions, group-singing provides a basis for community-building
and for personal relationships that can remedy painful isolation. Group singing
also promotes a feeling of well-being and a sense of mastery and empowerment,
and so helps fortify self-esteem among singers.
Pass It Around! is a California non-profit
corporation, exempt from taxation under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal
Revenue Code. Pass It Around! was established in March of 1998.
